Introduction to James.
James’ letter is a very practical, pastoral and penetrating – in other words he’s not interested in theoretical models of behaviour but in real, living relationships with Jesus. At the same time he genuinely cares about those he is writing to and the struggles they are facing. Finally he has no intention of backing off, of wrapping the message up in nice padding – he pretty much starts slugging it out from the start. What does it mean to be a faithful Christian in practice? When faced with the real hurdles of life, when you have real problems and real struggles how do you life for Jesus?
